#113 Super Phoenix (A)

In his origins from the expansive Kinnikuman universe that Mattel licensed all the figures for the M.U.S.C.L.E. toy line from Super Phoenix is one of the Five Fate Princes and the main antagonist in the Scramble for the Throne story arc. However, fans introduced to the likeness by the English market import version wouldn’t know the figures identity until much later. Same is often the case for any of the hundreds of imaginative characters that still occupy the popular Japanese manga series produced by the same two friends in Japan named Yudetamago 40+ years later.

In the original lore the Super Phoenix is born at the same time as the primary protagonist Kinnikuman (to which the series is named) and developed a deep rivalry challenging for the throne. Leading a powerful team of other recognizable characters utilizing strategy and manipulation like exploiting the “Muscle Prophecy” system that can erase fighters from existence.

Beginning as cruel and arrogant combatant driven by envy and animosity towards the main hero but evolving into an analytical and pragmatic strategist. His entertaining appearances would include brutal trademark techniques such as the Phoenix Psycho Wave using mental abilities to control and disrupt opponents minds. Or his signature finishing attack the Muscle Revenger as a multi-stage attack of headbutts and a final slam based on sacred techniques of the Kinniku clan.

A defining villain in both the original story lines that created him and the imaginations of the fans who may just be learning his identity. His imposing wrestler physique and odd lines adorning his form made him a favorite version of the likeness in this figure. Complex as both a character and the details in his sculpture that gives him personality but still a presence none the less.
