Football guy
A figure whose character gained a much greater recognition in the westernized M.U.S.C.L.E. toys line than he had in his origins in the Kinnikuman universe. Whether you knew his name or not, you probably got correct-enough just from the form easily recognized as an American football player inspired design. With Ameragu as a rough translation from the Japanese abbreviation for “American Football” but not without a quirky uniqueness the original creators known as Yudetamago are well known for.
Having a minor supporting role with brief appearances amongst any other of the hundreds additional characters in the roster seen in a crowd or group conflicts. Ameragu found himself welcomed in the new markets where his original identity was lost as Mattel opted to rebrand a selection of the Kinnikuman figures from the Japanese keshi toys.
Landing on the collective name of the Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere as the new marketing strategy, giving the consumers the opportunity to brand a figures likeness with whatever identity their imagination came up with. Making this figure a quick fan favorite in the American market especially where football was already a popular pastime and a familiar reference point for the character design.
For many the M on his jersey may have meant monster, masher, maybe M.U.S.C.L.E., however as more about his background character is translated over and learned, the real meaning may yet be found. With hundreds of obscure and entertaining characters in the franchise ranging from hilarious taboo to menacing aggressors there’s a lot of details to gather.
A unique gimmick for a henchman that definitely adds some visual flair to the superhuman combat concept the series still provides for over 40 years. Just another example of the memorable forms the original creators brought without names but left us wanting to know more.
