Texas Funk
When Mattel brought the beloved toy line from Japan to the Western markets they unfortunately left the original identities of the character figures for the most part behind. Opting instead to introduce the select characters of the enormous Kinnikuman universe as the Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere and relying merely on the figure likeness to grasp the imagination of the new consumer base.
This left the original backstories of the memorable characters to be discovered many years later by most fans of the super popular mini figure toy line. With a diverse range in character designs, and even many meant to personify real-life celebrities in the superhuman wrestling world created by the artistic pair known as Yudetamago.
One of which Terry Man, affectionately named and model in homage to the Terry Funk an energetic American wrestler who represents Texas in the Japanese manga and anime. His figure form appears multiple times in different forms among the M.U.S.C.L.E. distribution of his characters, but this one features battered facial features, and what appears to possibly be the wrist cuffs normally seen on Buffalo Man.
His character appearances play large roles in the greater story arcs of the still produced manga and anime franchise as primary antagonist and a best friend of the primary hero Kinnikuman to which the series is named. Terry brings a star-spangled motif with honest American values standing out as a role model through discipline and integrity.
The signature moves he brings would have been great to know in the epic childhood battles of so many. With names like the Texas Clover Hold, or his Calf Branding as possibly the most iconic where as the name implies his opponents are branded with his name.
While the origins in story arcs and their details related to specifics of each toy figure are still being learned, this version of the form still presents the question. Why is he wearing those recognizable wrist cuffs only on this form, and why is he so battered?
