Battle buddy
Like a background character in character in a sci-fi movie the Iron Commando is there to fill the role of countless combat scenes spurred from the imagination. However, little did the fans of the M.U.S.C.L.E. figure know but his origins in the Kinnikuman are equally as minor serving for a token concept adding to the visual roster. With his debut in the original Japanese manga’s Hell’s Seal story arc as a military inspired wrestler from France.
As a story protagonist his memorable grin paints an image of a sci-fi commando meets riot soldier meets well, whatever he needed to be to fit the form this figure conveys. Armored and a display style visor that at the time would have been simply fantasy fiction level persona this Justice Chojin the character brings in his limited appearances.
Though most wouldn’t have guessed the French origins given by the pair of creators who still grow the immensely popular Kinnikuman franchise from Japan under the duo pseudonym Yudetamago. He’s known for his technique of the Champs-Élysées Shooter Press displaying wrestling theatrics with some national flavoring as a minor contender.
Part of the much broader character library among hundreds of other interesting and entertaining characters he never becomes a central hero. With his character gaining most recognition in the fanbase of the merchandising from the Mattel line to the original Japanese keshi forms from which this figure began.
The armored visor look and the generic sci-fi soldier design that lends semblance to the Tokusatsu heroes popular at the time in from Japan. Made tough enough to contribute to the greater story lines while obscure enough to allow his play-time roles to fill any number of scenes.
To collectors he’s one of the most common but still a welcome addition to the character lineup selected by Mattel for import with a new identity as one of the Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere.
