Little rascal
Among the Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere that were introduced to the English-speaking markets by Mattel is Mister Achilles in a greek inspired persona. What most fans of the M.U.S.C.L.E. toys didn’t learn until much later though is their often interesting backstories from their origins taken from a popular Japanese manga and anime franchise known as Kinnikuman. An enormous universe filled with unique characters and decade’s worth of story arcs and development that keeps it still popular even today.

These creatures and characters created by the artistic duo collectively known as Yudetamago include hundreds of forms with the majority of them being background secondary characters. This includes our little buddy Mr. Achilles as a minor Chojin hailing from Greece to expand on the various international representations in various story arcs. With a signature technique of Achilles Savate
This character appears briefly in a flashback during the Ultimate Chojin Tag Tournament arc as an article of background lore adding some mythology to the scenes. A nod to the Greek hero Achilles with the exaggerated superhuman wrestling aesthetic that the franchise is known and loved for.

Classic Olympian stature meets mythological fighter without any depth to the character role, which allowed young fans to fill in the characters story on their own. Another great example of the diverse subsets of archetypes and character designs existing in the Kinnikuman universe which luckily even still continues to grow.

For the collectors of the M.U.S.C.L.E. toy line he’s one of the more common and often one of the first sets completed by those looking for a color “rainbow” like shown above. Being a simple and albeit smaller figure than most of the others in the series he often carried the same background role in fans imaginations as in the manga series from which he was created.
Not knowing any of his background growing up is the common story for most of us, but now that you do where does the imagination take it now?
