Aqua attacker
He’s big eyed and menacing, a favorite to many for his uniquely ominous character design. However, you may not have known he’s also one of the most popular of the Seven Devil Chojin in his origins amongst the hundreds of interesting characters from the Japanese manga anime franchise known as Kinnikuman. His name is Atlantis and he’s introduced as a ruthless aquatic villain hailing from the great barrier reefs, who matures in honor and integrity along the story arcs.
Created by the artistic pair of friends who dreamed up the Kinnikuman franchise (still popularly produced today by the same duo) who go by the name Yudetamago as a humanoid sea creature form specializing in aquatic combat. Relatively small physically compared to other super wrestlers but cunning and tactical in any large water environments.
Perhaps based on one of the many immensely popular childhood monsters of the time or maybe a mealtime imagination moment. Either way, his character remains recognizable still even the most recent episodes of the Perfect Origin Arc on Netflix. With an identity that fans who only knew the figure from the Mattel M.U.S.C.L.E. toys series, likely wouldn’t know until much later.
When Mattel licensed the figure forms derived from the already popular Japanese keshi toys (eraser toys) they opted to market them to the consumer based as collective of creatures rather than their individual identities. A decision that led many of the English-marketed fans to seek out their identities later in life and do things like, build websites about it for others. 😉
Whether we knew it or not, while abusing the figure in playtime battles his signature moves may have just been called the wrong names. Such as the Atlantis Mist, the Water Magnum, or his recognizable Atlantis Driver.
The same he used to defeat another primary character named Robin Mask who also appears in the M.U.S.C.L.E. series. Quickly becoming a main character in the imaginations of fans around the world whether they already knew his name, or not.
