To the fans whose introduction to this character came from the Mattel M.U.S.C.L.E. toy line, most wouldn’t have known his true identity. Perhaps filling in his persona with likeness to other franchises that came after with characters sharing similar traits. However, Kinnikuman Big Body had a much larger role in his origins from the popular Japanese manga and anime franchise that shares part of his name called Kinnikuman. An enormous creative universe with hundreds of unique and entertaining characters and an immersive background.
Presented as one of the five contenders for the throne of Planet Kinniku in the Throne Succession Arc, he’s dubbed one of the Five Fated Princes representing strength among the royal family. Originally a creation of the creative duo known as Yudetamago, this Big Body character wields overwhelming strength and power worthy of the royal family in the storylines.
A massive powerhouse confident and memorable his design exaggerates the muscular strongmen form into a simple yet potent character. Though this identity was lost in his import from his origins Japan to the primarily English-speaking markets Mattel introduced him to. Where instead he merely became one of the Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere collective.
While his original appearance may have been brief, and he was ultimately defeated by members of the Omega Centauri faction that supported rivals in their claims for the throne. He reappears in revival manga with a much improved reputation as a veteran warrior with notable courage and perseverance. Allowing him to regain dignity from the early defeat and become a fan favorite.
Specializing in brute force attacks like the Maple Leaf Clutch, and the Big Body Press, his power-based moves make him a formidable foe. A straightforward and memorable form however you came to know him. The figure remains in the imaginative battles of fans even still today.
