Brutal creature
Easily recognizable among the M.U.S.C.L.E. figures that Mattel licensed and imported for rebranding and marketing to primarily the English-speaking markets of North America. This odd creature was likely unrecognized for what he actually is in identity from his origins in the enormous Kinnikuman manga and anime from Japan. However, Black Buffalo is one of the hundreds of unique character designs shared by the creative duo of Japanese friends who go by the collective name Yudetamago.
A powerful yet secondary antagonist character appearing in the original manga and sequel elements of the Ultimate Muscle (Kinnikuman Nisei). This hard-hitting Chojin is somehow meant to lend inspiration from Asian water buffalo species. Though most unfamiliar would likely not guess the association in lieu of the menacing features of the form.
He’s a specialist in close-range combat charging opponents with crushing force and tackles with devastating grapples. His role is more of a filler character meant to absorb punishment and show endurance of more primary characters in the series as a minor antagonist. In the enormous cast of superhuman and supernatural likened roster of intergalactic wrestlers his form alone made him the most memorable versus recurring in story arcs.
Fighting alongside fellow Devil Chojin he’s conveyed as a loyal and eager combatant in dramatic scenes of confrontation in his appearances. Recognized as a straight forward brute in his techniques rather than a cunning or strategic assailant. His combination of buffalo like aggression and impressive durability as fighter made him a fan to many.
Whether you know his name or it was lost in translation, the figures form allowed many to flex their imaginations with his figure since introduction. Making him one of the common fan favorites to fans of all walks of life, regardless of his minor overall role in the franchise.
