Block of blocks
One of the more visually distinctive Chojin introduced in the early arcs of Kinnikuman and its superhuman wrestling combatants is Cube Man. As the name implies his body is composed of stacked cubes giving a geometric block like appearance unlike other recognizable wrestlers from the original manga storylines created by the creative duo Yudetamago as homage to the Rubik’s cube invented in Hungary by Ernő Rubik.

Reflecting a love of bizarre formidable fighters in the ring Cubeman uses his rigid body to his advantage with a fighting style that crushes and traps with blocky striking and defense strategies that leverage his square mass. Often portrayed as durable and difficult to knock down, his overpowering structure and weight was more prominent than speed or finesse in battles.
Using these over the top exaggerated forms he became easily recognizable in his debut as #24 of the Mattel M.U.S.C.L.E. carryover from his origins in Japanese keshi figures. The figures blocky proportions and dense center mass with simplified details in appearance easily make him stand out amongst his more humanoid peers in the arena.

His unconventional shape captures the eccentric creativity that defined Kinnikuman, preserving the charm of a franchise where even a stack of living cubes could step into the squared circle and compete for glory. Even if he didn’t dawn any notable attack techniques or defense of lore, he’s planted himself firmly in the minds of those who grew up with his Rubiks cube style presence adding unspoken complexity to the tale of the character.
