A Chojin of many faces
He goes by many names, and he has multiple physical forms. Sneagator as he’s known in the Kinnikuman world takes the form of the reptilian nightmare that is #6 in the M.U.S.C.L.E. lineup. Since kids in the ’80s weren’t generally aware of the original story lines he likely had any number of names but in this figures example he’s known as the Erimaki Tokage or “Frilled neck lizard” in translation.
Having the ability to disguise himself and confuse his opponents rooted his power in transformation instead of only brute strength. This gave Sneagator dangerous abilities in tournament arcs and took contenders by surprise with suddenly shifting body forms and fighting styles.
You may know him more by one of his other forms that was included in the Mattel introduction of their variation on the original Japanese Keshi toys. His creative faces are some of the most beloved by fans with his form of “the claw” being a cultural icon by itself.
The M.U.S.C.L.E. line leaned heavily into monster aesthetics. Western kids in the mid-1980s gravitated toward unusual, creature-like designs. A reptilian monster felt more in line with the brand’s “unusual creatures” identity than a disguised humanoid wrestler
One of the primary success factors in the Mattel M.U.S.C.L.E. lines marketing strategy was leaning into monster aesthetic and creature appeal. A reptilian monster that shape shifts was an obvious choice to include as one of the Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere.
Although he has more humanoid forms in his story arc, he just makes sense as a M.U.S.C.L.E. in his most outlandish forms.
