Striped muscle man
A villainous version of the figures carrying the Kinnikuman name, it’s a shame Mattel didn’t include the figure origins from Japan as created by the artistic duo Yudetamago. Because then fans of the English speaking version imported and rebranded as M.U.S.C.L.E. toys would have known the role this character plays connected to the royal lineage of the Kinnikuman race.
Recognizable by his black and white striped mask and body pattern, Kinnikuman Zebra is a darker rival that plays a major role in the Throne Scramble story arc. For planet Kinniku this story line saw several contenders’ claiming direct descent from the Kinniku royal family wishing to compete for the throne.
With a likeness to the primary hero protagonist, Zebra represents an ominous side to ambition and greed (giving him another moniker as the Greed Chojin) as his drive comes from desire for wealth and power. This pushes him to form the Zebra Team to battle rival factions in combat to determine the rightful ruler.
Proving to be a cunning and dangerous opponent Zebra showcases some of his ruthless fighting techniques including the Zebra Finish, and the Zebra Bomb where his devestating aerial slam drives combatants violently to the mat. Striped and aggressive whether his story was known or learned later, he still made his way into the battles of kids play times around both in the 1980s and even still today.
