Ninja lizard!
In the Kinnikuman universe where the figures origins are found this menacing looking lizard form named Ukon is another one of the hundreds of unique characters found through the story arcs. With numerous supporting background characters scattered throughout the tournaments and conflicts of the series but some stand out in the memories of some. With his mohawk helmet and humanoid lizard form it’s no wonder this figure is likely one.
Originally created from the minds of the artistic duo of friends who still produce the immensely popular manga and anime in Japan today. They go by the collective name Yudetamago and have cultivated an enormous roster of characters for over 40 years. Including Ukon who’s a follower of Octopus Dragon III commanding a small army of purple ninja lizards as Ninja Chojin do.
Interestingly it’s not known simply by the translation of his name to the common spice turmeric but so many details are still being learned from the perspective fans in the English-speaking markets. Since Mattel decided to rebrand the figures they selected from the original Japanese keshi toy figures to market as the M.U.S.C.L.E. toy line the identities of these creative creatures were lost in the import process.
To collectors his figures can often be tougher to obtain quickly in varying difficulty as even the fleshy default versions are of generally lower quantities (though not to be counted as rare or anything extra special to be clear). However, the figures form itself is a memorable gimmick that allowed an easy identity creation by your own imagination. While not a major character, to collectors he can be one of the major pains in his own right.
Besides, who doesn’t love the idea of a clawed lizard ninja with a ninja lizard gang of henchmen, and purple for some reason too! It’s another example of the broad spectrum in character design the Kinnikuman universe is known for.
Ranging from bizarre and obscure, to ridiculous and comical, to terrifying and nightmarish. There’s probably some figures that stick out in the nostalgic memories of these fun little guys more than others thanks to the imaginative concepts.
