Tank turret
With this odd creature among the M.U.S.C.L.E. toys without his original identity and backstory likely led many fans of the figure to let their own imaginations supply his persona. However, Leopardon quickly became favorite to many fans for his military inspired design as a secondary background character. Before Mattel opted to rebrand the figures from their origins in the Kinnikuman universe created by two Japanese friends that go by the duo moniker of Yudetamago.
A name and design concept based around a German main battle tank line sharing the similar name of Leopard, its mechanical appearance is reflected in this robo-Chojin’s humanoid tank. Including armor plating and the large turret on his back and another weapon for a hand. This battle-ready firepower powerhouse brings an entertaining image of brute force assault.
Ironically though the character becomes known for one of the shortest matches in the history of the series defeated by Mammoth Man in a one-on-one fight. Turning him into a long-running joke among fans for being eliminated before a match can even begin. The manga revival arc from 2011 gave Leopardon another chance returning as a capable veteran warrior.
As you might assume his fighting style is a little more expansive than poking a sibling during heated living room grudge matches, even if his character is also an underdog. Combining classic wrestling techniques aligned with his characters gimmick to deliver formidable armored grapples and full speed Tank Charge rushes.
However, his trademark moves do get some recognition including the Heavy Artillery Strike, and the Leopardon Cannon firing powerful blasts from his back mounted boom stick. Another interesting tournament image adding to the ever expanding and diverse backdrop roster in the series that includes hundreds of unique character designs.
Leopardon is another great example of how the creators of Kinnikuman shared their imagination around the world, even if you perhaps before only knew the figure. A gift still enjoyed by the still being produced manga and anime from the same pair of friends in Japan even today.
