The warrior
Most of us who started only being familiar with the Mattel M.U.S.C.L.E. toy line in the mid-late 80s had our own names for the characters. Perhaps even their backstory and special moves because we didn’t know the origins of the Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere. Except each of the beloved little characters came from an enormous super wrestling universe still both created and popular in Japan today.
The creative duo of friends that started the manga and anime franchise decades before go by the collective identity of Yudetamago. Where they created numerous memorable and unusual characters like the Apache Nation leader inspired human named Geronimo built around the concept of perseverance, courage, and power of spirit.
However, the character himself is associated with the Cherokee Nation ok Oklahoma (perhaps an oversight or intentional difference) but with his obvious Native American inspired motif his appearances along the storylines portray an energetic and emotional commitment to justice. Many of the fans could have guessed this just based on the memorable character design by itself.
A single human warrior in a universe of super-human “Chojin” wrestling monsters, he initially hides the fact he’s human. During the Five-Story Ring battle in the Golden Mask storyline he faces Sunshine in a brutal match where determination eventually leads to his victory in the match. Later becoming a genuine Chojin himself after completing the Superman Road trials providing acceptance to the Justice Chojin faction.
His relationship with Terryman is particularly important as he recognizes Geronimo’s potential and becomes a mentor figure before the two eventually fight together as the New Machineguns. Helping him in his progression where we see multiple signature moves based around the character’s context.
His Apache War Cry is probably the most impressive, unleashing a powerful and destructive shockwave in the form of an echoing “U-Ra-Ra!!” trademarked fashion. Lending to his other Apache Death Scream move his weapon of choice is fittingly a Tomahawk. With the Tomahawk Chop, and the Tomahawk Tornado adding to his unique techniques.
