Raggy Super Phoenix
Wearing what looks likes raggy clothes over a muscular super-human wrestler frame disguised this figure’s form of Phoenix Man who is actually represented also in later form of Super Phoenix also in the M.U.S.C.L.E. import series from Mattel. However, fans of the North American marketed toys wouldn’t have known his true identity from the original Kinnikuman franchise they were imported from Japan as re-branded as the Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere.
His origins in the enormous universe of manga and anime still popular and created today by the same two Japanese friends who go by the collective name Yudetamago are actually vast. As one of the Five Fated Princes and a principal antagonist of the Throne Succession story arc, he’s the leader of the Intelligence Team and one of the most formidable opponents in the franchise.
Born the same day in the same hospital as the star character for which the franchise is named after Kinnikuman, he grew up in extreme poverty with his parents Phoenix Taro, and Phoenix Shizuko. Despite this he displayed extraordinary intelligence and fighting abilities from a young age who developed deep animosity towards the rightful heir to throne since Kinnikuman was taken into luxury while he struggled in life. A jealousy that drives his central motivation in later actions during the story line.
His life changes entirely when the God of Intelligence selects him as his vessel, possessing him and causing his transformation into Kinnikuman Super Phoenix granting enormous power. Allowing him to challenge the Kinniku Prince for rights to the throne of planet Kinniku where he advances all the way to the final confrontation with Kinnikuman himself as arguably the strongest of the Five Fated Princes challenging for the throne.
His signature techniques and strategy in fighting abilities encompass deception and scientific reasoning to be a cunning opponent. Displaying notable unique moves like the Muscle Revenger, a technique drawn from one of the Three Great Kinniku Clan Secret Techniques that involves repeated headbutts into the air before trapping an opponents limbs and driving them headfirst to a corner.
Along with also the Raging Ox, the Phoenix Stretch, the Phoenix Madness Wave, and others. Though despite his cruelty he remains vulnerable to the presence of his mother who sacrificed much to raise him.
His presence highlights a disparity between privilege and toil amongst classes believing he was cheated from a life he deserved. Except he learns through acceptance by Kinnikuman himself that his intelligence and determination were never worthless, and where his true value lays. A mindful insight that continues to elevate his fan base admiration still today.
